The Dragon Haiku: Why They Have Us Breathing Fire

Legends/ By John Rodriguez/ June 12, 2023

Well, butter my biscuit, we've got a scorching topic on our hands - the Dragon Haiku. Now, you might be thinking, “What in tarnation is a dragon haiku?” Let me lay it out for you.

A haiku, originating from the Land of the Rising Sun - Japan, is a kind of poem with a unique structure. This little number has three lines that follow a 5-7-5 syllable format. Short? Sure. Easy to master? As easy as riding a wild, fire-breathing dragon bareback. Haikus pack a wallop of imagery and emotion into just seventeen syllables, conjuring grand scenes with an economy of words.

So, where do dragons come into play? Well, dragons are epic, mythical creatures known for their strength, majesty, and occasional love for gold. Mix them with the refined art of haiku, and you've got yourself an irresistible concoction.

Dragon haikus, folks, are where Eastern poetry meets Western fantasy, a fusion as intriguing as it is enchanting. These seventeen-syllable wonders take us on a magical flight through a realm where winged beasts rule the skies, all without leaving our cozy reading nooks.
